Matilija Falls 8 3 12

So Vanessa and Djo came into town for a week to go camping and cliff jumping. Since we hadn’t been out to Matillija this year we drove to check it out. The Pump, Eddy and Ricky Baby met up with us and we randomly saw Daniel and his buddies when we woke up at the camp site the next morning.

This place has changed a lot since we started going about 5 years ago. Most of the cliff jumping spots are completely filled in with giant rocks and even the giant waterfall jump is filled in with sand. We found one spot to jump and it was only 20 feet tall into 7 feet of water. Really hope that some flash floods will hit this canyon during winter and push out all the crap.

Directions: Take 101 north to 33 north in Ventura. Follow the 33 for a few miles through town and it will veer left at a Vons. Make sure you stay on the 33 the whole time then turn left on NORTH Matillija Rd. Follow the road 4 miles till it ends at a parking lot on the left. Walk down the road past the peacock sanctuary and you will cross the stream a few times. After 1.5 miles the road forks, take the left side and you will hit a T intersection then take a right and hike past another dudes house. IGNORE ALL SIGNAGE IT WILL THROW YOU OFF! The trail will cross the creek and will end up in a tunnel of trees. The camping spot is about 3 miles from the trailhead, the first set of falls is another 3 miles up the trail. When the creek splits the first time take the left side and follow it up to the double tier fall on the left. Right before the double tier fall is another creek coming in from the right, if you follow that creek it will take you to the upper pools and some amazing waterfalls. When you visit please pack out what you pack in. Keep this and all the outdoors clean.

The Mound 7 29 12

Went out to THE MOUND last weekend. Huge posse showed up for the cliff jumping show. Babes and beers and dudes and dogs and chrons. This spot is along Deep Creek in the San Bernardino National Forest up near Lake Arrowhead. Follow directions to Aztec Falls from Splinter’s Cabin but continue along the Pacific Crest Trail for another 1.5 miles after the drop down to Aztec. You will see THE MOUND appear along the right side of the trail down in the creek. Descend down the sketchy rock pile to the pool below the huge cliffs. Bring lots of water, no glass bottles and CLEAN UP YOUR FUCKING GARBAGE!

The Narrows 7 7 12

Sup bung tonguers? The other week we went out to The Narrows in Running Springs. This little spot is along Deep Creek in the the San Bernardino National Forest. The route there is not much of a hike, you just park at the end of a neighborhood road and walk down a small trail to the cliff jumping spot.

We spent a good 5 hours drinking beer, smoking medicinal herbs and jumping cliffs on a perfect summer day. Since this spot is about 6000 feet up, the air temp rarely gets higher than 80 degrees and the water is cooooold, feels good man. I’m gonna be one of those shlongs and not post directions to this place, simply because it’s so easy to get to and I don’t want to see it spraypainted more than it already is.

Enjoy the vid!

Sequoia Weekend 6 29 12

It was Melissa’s birthday July 1st and she wanted to camp so we spent an amazing weekend in the Sequoia National Park hiking and cliff jumping. We messaged the locals on FB and they met up with us on Friday to show us some of their spots. Friday we went to Potwisha where we jumped, butt-slid and drank a millions beers. We camped and got up early on Saturday to get some jumping in at The Cliffs. Dan, Ethan, Mike and Zac showed us how hard they hold down the spot. They pulled some of the gnarliest shit I have ever seen off cliffs. I am truly jealous of their skillz. We camped Saturday night at Buckeye Flat Campground and woke up the next morning for some more adventure. We hiked out to Paradise Falls, The Grand Tub, The Bridge and Hospital Rock for more insanity.

We could not have asked for a better weekend or better hosts. Thanks again to the Visalia crew and Happy Birthday to my girl Melissa. Enjoy the vids.

Red Rocks 6 24 12

Yo donglers! Went to Red Rocks out in the Los Padres National Forest above Santa Barbara. The road out to Red Rocks has been closed for over a year and it FINALLY opened earlier this spring. This spot is always super sick. There are a few deep spots along the Santa Ynez river which winds its way out of the Santa Ynez mountains. A few of those deep spots have high cliffs, Red Rocks is the most famous.

Any weekend in the summer you will see a hundred or more people chillaxin, blazing the chron-chron and pounding brewdogs at Red Rocks. So if you are trying to take your girlfriend out for a skinny dip deep-dickin, this is not the place. Because of all the party people you can imagine how trashed the place gets. The trail to the swimmin hole is really short so bring some trashbags and clear out some bottles and cans. Even though the trash isn’t yours, you should feel obligated to clean up. The Earth is our home, not our trashcan.

Okay, sorry for being preachy. Directions are as follows:
Take Hwy 101 from LA and exit 154 to Lake Cachuma. Follow the road up the hill and over the San Marcos pass. Turn right on Paradise road and drive to the Red Rocks TRAILHEAD not Red Rocks Campground. There are cliffs to jump at the campground but they don’t go up to 88 feet. From the parking lot take the heavily used trail to the swimmin hole. Crack one open and dive in. You will need a Forest Adventure Pass but if you tell the people working the gate that your friends have an extra car pass waiting for you at the trailhead then you can park for free. Be cool, be safe and CLEAN UP YOUR FUCKING TRASH!

Rindge Dam 6 23 12

Sup hookers?!?!?!?!?!!!! Last Saturday we went to the Rindge Dam out in Malibu Creek State Park. We parked the cars along Piuma Road and shuttled to the hike-down spot along Malibu Canyon Road. We crossed the top of the dam and made it down to the swimmin spot right before the rangers got there. There were helicopters hoovering above the dam checking in on us every 30 minutes. The rangers busted in and gave people tickets for cigarettes and open containers. Luckily most of us swam across the creek to a spot they couldn’t get to. FUCK THE RANGERS!

So the rest of the time was spent hucking flips and gainers off the rocks and ledges of the dam. Everyone went all out and busted some crazy gnar shit, cliff jumping at its most extreme. Super stoked that everyone had a good time and no one got hurt.

This video is in memory of Joel Rodriguez who lost his life last month jumping the dam. Rest in peace brother.
