We were blessed with rains last week so we decided to go to Fish Canyon Falls near Duarte to check and see if the pools were deep enough to swim. A lot has changed since the last time we went there nine years ago. Way more people than we expected, probably around 20 people hanging out at the falls and a group of 20 old Korean ladies hiking out while we hiked in. Also the route through the rock quarry has been fenced off to keep wanderers from dicking around on the equipment.
The trail is very straightforward, 2.4 miles from the parking lot through Fish Canyon to the falls. The weather was a perfect 85º and the water was refreshingly pleasant. When we got there we sparked up a bowl, cracked open some tall boys and splashed around like gay sea otters. The pool at the bottom of the falls is only about 3 feet deep, but right below that pool is a small deep pool with cliffs on both sides. They only go up to about 20 feet but they are still fun to fart around on.
I tried hiking up to the second tier of the falls but it was super sketchy, gonna have to come back with some rope and anchors to check it out. Surprisingly there was very little trash, possibly because there are trashcans at the trailhead and along the trail. All in all a nice way to spend a few hours on a warm spring Saturday.
