Upper Stoddard Canyon Falls 6 13 10

Awesome day all around. These are the types of days Ice Cube sings about. Tipped off about a new spot by our good buddy David Squall. Drove up to Mt Baldy and pulled off the main road to the Stoddard Truck Trail. Drove down about 2 seconds to the parking area and hiked down into the canyon. Got to the falls and chilled for about a minute before two hot hippy babes came sliding down the falls. Had no idea it was safe but lo and behold. Throb and The Pump hiked around to the top of the falls and slid down too. Hung out for about an hour then hiked back up to the parking lot to the swimmin hole under the bridge. Water was decently cold but tolerable. Jumped off some rocks into the shallow water for a bit. As we were leaving we found a pile of dead carp about 3 feet high and peeled out on it in the bad ass blazer. Also saw Clint Eastwood on the freeway heading back. Present on this trip was Throb, The Pump, Deep Float, Bnr Lvr, B-Ram, and Joey Joe Joe Shabadoo.
Directions: 210E to Baseline go left. Right on Padua, Right on Mt Baldy Rd. Drive 6.1 miles to the Stoddard Truck trail on the right. Drive down and park. Hike downstream and look for a spot to cut into the creek.

I love your site! I’m an LA native living in Oakland. My fetish is visiting hot springs. See pics on FB page. Can I meet up with you guys for hike someday? I visit my parents and friends down south once a month. Carry on the good work, men!

just went last saturday and some climbers had hooked up a climbing rope for swingin into the water and you could almost make it to the waterfall. the birds are still there and the momma kept flying over the waterfall to feed the chicks and back up, all day. that mossy area was incredible, stood there for about 20 mins just looking. there’s a pretty jungly area a bit further down the creek that feels like oregon.

This spot is nice! Thanks a lot for sharing this spot. Im a san fernando valley local and as you also found out the hard way… monkeys canyon is gone. We tried going out there about a month back or more, at the start of summer, and were disappointed to see everything filled with sediment. This spot is sick! Maybe an extra 20 minutes driving but its well worth it. VERY CLEAN water…not too crowded…Little graffiti, and little trash. This is now our “new” monkeys creek! Thanks a lot guys. Keep up the good work. Hopefully ill get in touch to join you guys an a trip someday. Good People. oh. BTW what other spots would you recommend thats not too far from the 818? Preferably cliff jumping spots!
    Peace!

hells yes. we are always down to posse up and kill spots. best spots close to the 818 would be aztec and the deep creek area. fish canyon is fun but the jump is only about 20 feet at the highest. dont know if they opened switzer back up yet but that place is fun too. keep jumpin all summer till all the waters gone. peace.
